Fijian Honeymoon

So Andy and I left for Fiji on April 17th from Sydney. After the 4 hour flight we arrived to a definitely even warmer climate, the tropics! We noticed the difference stepping off the plane, a warm wave of mugginess hit us. It felt great! Our polite and knowledgeable driver from the resort staff was at the airport, to pick us up. It was a 2 hour drive to the resort and a great way to see the countryside. Though a poor country Fiji is beautiful and the native Fijians are such friendly and warm hearted people. Once at the resort we were shown to our bungalow. It was so beautiful and big, it was great to finally have a really quiet beautiful place to sleep. The Wellesley is only a 15 room resort, so it is private and very quiet. The weather was pretty good during our 9 day stay. At least 5 days were pretty sunny with light clouds, the other 4 were more cloudy with rain. But the temperature was still warm so it was very comfortable. And boy did we learn how strong the sun is! We used 30 SPF and Andreas did reapply alot more than me, but we both burned. My worst burn was my upper back/shoulders. The rest of my bikini outline is a really nice golden brown! Love it :)

We so enjoyed our time together in Fiji. We swam in the lagoon and restort pool, we snorkelled, we sea kyaked, we sailed on a little cateraman that Andy manned (I was just along for the ride :), we went on boat cruises, and we had dinner at the beach the 2nd last night. We also went horse back riding on the beach, it was so beautiful, my horse was the lead horse too! Plus of course alot of time on the beach or at the pool reading. And lots of loving each other too!

We also got to know some of the couples at the resort who were staying the same time as us. There were 2 other honeymooner couples, and a couple other couples as well, who were all in our age range. It was fun getting to know them and make more contacts in Australia as well.

Though it was a beautiful day when we left we were ready for the next venture of our year here. We arrived back in Sydney on the evening of the 26th, picked up by a lovely couple Charles and Carolyn who hosted us for a few days.

Next blog will be about our "new" car!

First week in Australia

So here I am, in Sydney Australia with my hubby! It has been a interesting yet fun trip so far. The flight was great, in that the plane was quite empty, so we had 3 seats to ourselves. I did manage to get a few hours of sleep, Andreas more like 5-6.

However before we even left Vancouver, things has turned interesting due to the fact when I realized I'd left my purse at home :( Talk about a blond moment! Thankfully my very wise husband had suggested a few days before, that we keep our passports together in his cloth passport holder. So we could easy arrive in Sydney and fly internationally. Now my bank card and a few other important cards will be mailed here by mom. Who is obviously the experienced traveler among us two? :P

The weather was beautiful, Tues, Wed and Thurs. We set up our bank accounts on Tues and went to bed early b/c of jet lag. We are staying at a backpackers, and realizing we are starting to outgrow backpackers (especially shared rooms!). We only have one other girl staying in our room, and she's out a lot, but the whole room is really small anyways.
Wed we went for a nice walk through the Royal Botanical gardens, saw the Sydney Opera house, and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. And sunburned Andreas face and my chest. But it was a beautiful 28 degrees. We also met up with our contact Carolyn and Charles, and they picked up our extra luggage to store for us while we are in Fiji.
Thursday we went all along Paramatta road looking at car dealers for a car we will buy for the year. Found some possibilities. It was another hot, and sunny day. Close to 30 degrees, but with a gentle breeze blowing. I am loving the weather!! In the evening we went for a short ferry ride on the harbour. It was nice seeing the city skyline in twilight.
Today we went for a longer walk to the bank to pick up our bank cards. We have met a few interesting people from the backpackers accommodation, but most are into the party scene and single, so not really in the same situation as us.
Tomorrow we are off to Fiji! I am so excited for our honeymoon, it's going to be awesome! Will post pictures soon!
The only con I'm noticing in Sydney anyways, is a lot of people seem to smoke. Since I don't live in Vancouver and have not visited the city super often, I don't know if it's just a city thing, or that people do smoke more here. It seems every 5-10 minutes we pass a smoker though! Koff, Koff :(
